DQSC Club Boat, Kayak, and SUP Booking - Terms & Conditions

In order to book a club boat please read the following booking conditions. By continuing with your booking you are agreeing to these Terms and Conditions.

  1. Following a number of member requests, in 2022 we improved Dell Quay member access to club dinghies through implementation of the Anytime Pool.  This will enable access to a limited number of the more popular dinghies outside of scheduled club events as well as all boats during events.  It relies on members adhering to guidance both in terms of personal and crew safety (both on and off the water) and respecting Dell Quay property.  Operation and success of the Anytime Pool will be regularly monitored and reviewed, and we sincerely hope that all users will see the benefit of improved access to club dinghies to help ensure its continued operation.  Please note all bookings for club dinghies can now only be made by online prepayment as detailed in section 12 below.

  2. You are responsible for both your own and your crew's safety, provision of appropriate safety equipment and for the dinghy you have booked.  You should take note of the following safety considerations, acceptance of which is a condition of your booking:
    1. You are aware of the inherent element of risk involved in sailing and accept responsibility for the exposure of yourself, your crew and the boat you have booked to such inherent risk both afloat and ashore.
    2. Whether sailing as part of an event, or at any other time, you are responsible for the safety of yourself, your crew, the boat you have booked, and your other property whether afloat or ashore.
    3. You must check that the boat you have booked is in good order, equipped to sail in the conditions, and both you and the crew, are fit to participate.
    4. If sailing in an event, the provision of a race management team, patrol boats and other officials and volunteers by the event organiser does not relieve you of your responsibilities.
    5. The provision of any patrol boat cover by an event organiser is limited to such assistance, particularly in extreme weather conditions, as can be practically provided in the circumstances.
  3. Before rigging the dinghy assess the weather and tidal conditions (for the duration of the booking) versus you and your crews experience. If booking a boat for a Junior/Novice, for whom you are responsible, assess the level of supervision you can give to the junior or novice sailor in the prevailing conditions for the duration of the booking. This is particularly important for use of the Anytime Pool boats outside of club events when there will no patrol boats.
  4. Club boats cannot be booked by novice sailors. As a minimum, you must have RYA Dinghy Level 2/Youth Sailing Scheme Stage 3 or equivalent experience/competence and capability in order to borrow a club boat, and this will depend on forecast conditions. For example, if borrowing the Laser 2000, which is a powerful boat, as well as appropriate experience, the Laser 2000 Class Association states the optimum combined weight of the crew is between 19 and 28.4 stone (ie. 120 - 180 kg).
  5. All Club boats are available for use as part of scheduled club activities, and you must indicate the activity you plan to use the boat for in the comments section. Whilst boats in the Dell Quay Anytime Pool, may be used both during scheduled events or at any other time, on days of scheduled sailing events at DQ, only the following Approved Members will be able to release the boat to you:
    • Racing - Duty Officer
    • WOW - WOW lead or Duty Officer
    • Dinghy Cruising - Dinghy Cruising Event Coordinator or Lead
    • Fun Friday - Duty Officer
    • Junior Events - Junior Lead
  6. Unless you are a qualified Assistant Instructor (AI) or Dinghy Instructor (DI), you must be 18 or over in order to book a club boat. Bookings for juniors (under 18) must be made by an adult responsible for the junior(s).
  7. When you have completed the booking process you should print off a hard copy of your downloadable booking form or download the form to your tablet or mobile phone. You can also print off a downloadable copy of the rigging instructions for the boat you have booked. Rigging instructions for each club boat are also provided in the club boat equipment storage area in the workshop.
  8. On days of scheduled club events, when you collect the boat you will first of all need to show a copy of the booking form to the organiser of the event (the Approved Member) for which you are borrowing the boat. They will release the rudder and dagger board (if applicable) for your boat from the secure equipment storage area located in the workshop. NOTE: All club boat hulls and foils are uniquely identified by a labelling system as follows: Anytime Pool boats (may be used at any time but on club event days can only be released for use by the Approved Member)

    • 2000 - 2K
You must ensure that the foils you use are correctly matched with the hull of the boat you have booked.

  9. A general equipment check list for the club boats is provided in the equipment store. You must check that all the items in the equipment list are present and in good order. If any equipment items are not in good order you should not use the boat and report the problem to the club boat bosun as detailed in item 11 below as soon as possible.
  10. After use the boats should be washed down, taken back to their berth storage location, the covers put back on and the boats tied down. Refer to weblink at bottom for storage locations. Sails and foils should be returned to the secure equipment storage area when you have finished with the boat. Sails should be stored on the shelves inside their bags (if they have one) or on the sail tubes.
  11. Any damage or problems with the club boats and the fittings to the club boats should be reported using the online form.
  12. All those booking club boats will also be required to complete the Club Boat Log (CBL) and sign out & back in for the boat. The CBL is in the Green Folder in the lobby.
