The Gift of Sailing Fund

DQSC Gift of Sailing Fund
Quick Guide
June 2025
Purpose
The Gift of Sailing Fund GSF is in place to support the following:
- Community Places at Junior Week and other Training Centre events at DQSC
- Junior members at DQSC or Community Place juniors applying for support to attend a specific event or for equipment, to improve their sailing or help reach their sailing potential.
The fund aims to reduce barriers to the access and development of sailing skills. It aligns with DQSC club strategy to promote access to the water.
Management
The fund will be managed by three stewards (minimum), who report to General Committee GC. The stewards will be members of DQSC and demonstrate suitable skills, experience and interest to support them in this role.
Each application for funding will be discussed by the stewards and decisions made according to the merits of the application, based around evidence of potential benefit to the individual, anticipated positive impact on their sailing experience and/or development.
The stewards will additionally use as guiding principles:
- Commitment to the sport
- Realising potential
- Financial need.
The above are based on the RYA Foundation Youth Fund, which supports young people to access sailing.
Funding
Donations to the fund will be made on a voluntary basis by:
- Members
- Specific Fundraising events
- Sponsors
Donations will only be used for the purposes of the fund.
Community Places
The principles of the Community Places scheme are as follows:
- To support and enable community juniors to learn to sail, through joining Junior Week and Sunday Fundays
