Bembridge Rally 23rd to 24th April 2024
There was a very good turn out of hardy sailors for the first rally of the season to the Duver Marina. It was an easy sail over in WNW F3/4 and skippers were very pleased with the good speed made by their freshly antifouled boats. With the well-buoyed route into the harbour safely negotiated by everyone, we were all tied up just after lunch. Roussillon and Firebird had made the trip over on Monday and had spent the extra time exploring the island.
A lot had changed since we were last there and there was a fine new building at the top of the pontoon that will house the offices and facilities. It was not quite ready for us this time.
It began to drizzle so cockpit tents were deployed in the afternoon to make life aboard more comfortable. After early evening chat over drinks and nibbles aboard Fairwind, we walked up to The Vine Inn in St Helens via the footpath across the old golf course and up through the woods because the Causeway route was closed whilst under going repairs following winter storm damage. Once there we enjoyed a convivial evening with a good meal served efficiently by the friendly staff.
A full moon illuminated our way back with the "Fairy Tree" providing a useful waymark.
Wednesday dawned dry but overcast and with a chilly F3 WNW wind so we were all able to sail back to the harbour with full sail up. We left the crew of La Mouette enjoying an extra day in Bembridge.

It was very good to meet rally newcomers Christian and Monika and Richard and Marji.
Unfortunately Niobe had to return to Chichester due to crew illness and we wish John a speedy recovery and hope to see Bill and crew out and about soon.
Next rally is to Shepards Marina, West Cowes on Sat 11May.
