Longmore March 30 2025
There's normally a consensus amongst the fleet about the best place on the start line. If you watch Sail GP (free on YouTube) then they even show it with a blue triangle. So while the fleet hugged the shore going up to the Hook mark, Mark (Solo 5836) went straight up the middle before cutting back to take an early lead. He held onto it round Fishbourne before Bill & Claire (Laser 2000 22744) put up their spinnaker and never looked back.
It was a strong, gusty North Westerly for the first race of the season. From Fishbourne the fleet headed to Longmore via Copp East on a long, fast reach. The wind was so strong, they were back via Kiln in 30 minutes before a couple of local circuits which saw Rob and Lawrence (RS400 1333) briefly threaten the top places before dropping back. In the end, the Laser 2000 finished almost ten minutes before anyone else and won comfortably on handicap. Mark kept his second place with Simon (6001) third. Eleven boats were out (seven Solos) and most stayed upright on the gybe-free course.
