Dinghy Cruising Introduction
What is Dinghy Cruising at Dell Quay Sailing Club all about?
We have a section specifically for those individuals that do not want to race or simply prefer the social and cruising side of dinghy sailing.
For those members who would like an alternative to racing, we can offer a mixture of sailing & social activities throughout the season.
Mostly these are day events in Chichester Harbour, informal, but in a safe environment with an allocated leader/point of contact.
There are a series of events already organized for this season; however we are always happy to hear from anyone with new suggestions for activities.
If any one would like to volunteer to run an event of help out in any way please contact Zander by Email he is keen to get as many boats and people on the water as possible.
A bit about Zander
I've only been sailing since 2018 but have been heading out of Dell Quay at every opportunity since then. The former dinghy cruising coordinator John Wilburn has given me a lot of guidance since I started. You might see me in my Bosun cruising around. I have two children, Beatrix and Felix, who are sometimes with me. Fortunately for me there is ice cream available at CYC and Bosham which makes a great way to lure them out on the various DQSC dinghy cruising events.
I love heading out to explore the harbour and beyond. The most challenging adventure so far for me was a January sail to IOW and back. Im looking forward to getting to meet more club members and having many more amazing days out on the water.
What kind of Dinghy Cruising do we offer?
Cruisers in Company events
These are aimed at the more experienced sailors, with longer distances and overnight stays....
They are designed to include the dinghy and cruiser members & promote cruising in company.
Some events the cruiser members may offer a berth on board, some of the dinghy cruisers have boom tents and sleep aboard their own boats.
Camping events
We aim to provide at least one camping event per season. We have an arrangement with Cobnor estate, which is in the harbour. This event is normally a Friday night, Saturday night & return to DQ Sunday. Due to the location the camp site offers a multitude of options at many levels. Most people use tents but camper vans are very welcome.
Ad hoc evening cruises
These are usually short notice evening sails in the harbour at its best - peaceful.
Social events
An essential part of the cruising scene, there are several evenings planned for an informal meet up to shoot the breeze.
We will require advance booking & a deposit for all the overnight events as we have to pay a deposit for the pitches & berth spaces.
Please join us and enjoy the beauty & diversity of Chichester Harbour!
