Easter Mini Day 1 Races 1,2 and 3
Good Friday promised sunny spells and pleasant south easterly breezes, with the threat of rather stronger gusts, as Dell Quay's dinghy racers gathered for the first races of this year's Easter Mini Series. With a course set comprising two good beats across the harbour and a long run back to the Quay, the handicap fleet got away in fresh winds to test boat handling skills. Juniors sailors Sofia Hillary and Rory Parrett, kept ahead of their peers Archie and Freddie Pearson in their Fevas.
However they couldn't keep up with the family battle between Sue Manning in her ultra lightweight Aero5 and daughter Becky in her Laser Radial. Sue triumphed with two wins, while Simon Verrall and Gabriel Collison coaxed the club's own Laser 2000 to second
Meanwhile in the Solo fleet Peter Binning livened the afternoon for spectators by taking an unexpected bath at race 2's leeward mark. Mark Harper was unusually inconsistent with a first, third and second.
Apparently he was heard calling house as he crossed the finish line. All of which left Steven Holcroft to take honours with a second and two firsts.
With 3 races complete, it's all up for grabs on Easter Saturday.
