Developing Junior Racing at Dell Quay

This weekend saw the first _Dell Quay Youth Squad_ Training event. Newly qualified Race Coach Nick Pearson and Harvey Hillary ran a two-day RS Feva clinic focused on our Level 3 Junior Racers. Eight sailors attended the first event, which targeted rigging, spinnaker handling, and upwind sail trim.
This event was ideal preparation for the Itchenor Youth Regatta over the Easter weekend, where we hope to enter three teams from DQSC. "We aim to bridge the gap from Junior Week to Club Racing and encourage a Youth Squad to represent DQSC in Harbour Regattas and Open Meetings. Our Club boats are excellent resources which are underused and poorly maintained. Nick did a fantastic Job of re-rigging the Club Fevas on Friday, and with a few bimbles over the weekend, we started getting the boats race-ready. Boats that work are essential as we look to develop boat handling and race manoeuvres. In the coming weeks, we hope to get 4th Feva on the water and all the sails repaired. We hope to raise funds for new Race Jibs and Spinnakers as we build momentum, allowing our boats to race competitively at open events.
Nick and 'Pinky' aka Shaun Pollard have been working in the background to get this project off the ground, and in our centenary year, it's a great fit to focus on our future.
